SHILLONG, MARCH 05: Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma on Tuesday said that his government will live up to the expectations of the people who have voted the Congress to power and deliver on the party’s poll pledges.

Talking to reporters here, Sangma said he was conscious that along with the mandate given by the people to his party come expectations. “We are here to live up to their expectations. The team that I will be having in the government will be the one who can live up to the expectations of the people and (will be able to) fulfill the promises made by the party in the manifesto,” he said.

“We have a strong political party. We now should be able to give good governance,” he said on a day he assumed office as the chief minister of the Congress-led coalition for the second consecutive term. Flanked by senior party colleagues D. D. Lapang and S. C. Marak, Sangma said his government will strive to create better education and health facilities in the rural areas so as to buck the trend of migration to the towns that is causing abnormal rise in the prices of land in urban centres. (By Our Reporter)
