CM takes pot-shots at UDP, BJP

SHILLONG, APR 11: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma today asked the regional political parties in Meghalaya to have clarity on their stand rather than “camouflaging themselves”.

His statement came in the wake of the move by the BJP led NDA government at the Centre to observe the Digital India Day on a Good Friday, which will be observed across the state and the nation on April 14.

“I am also tempted to suggest some of the regional parties to have complete clarity on their stand,” Sangma told journalists here on Tuesday.

Expressing amusement at the statements of some of the regional parties that they are looking for “like-minded” parties, he wonder as to how is UDP and BJP becoming like-minded parties.

“Is UDP then subscribing to the agenda of the BJP?” Sangma asked while pointing out that one of the UDP leaders was referring to BJP as like-minded party and at the same time criticizing the cow slaughter ban.

“So how is BJP becoming a like-minded party to a regional party like UDP…that means they are also having the same agenda like BJP,” he said adding “They (UDP) should tell the people that they are having the same agenda like the BJP why are they lying to the people of the state.”

He went on to add: “It is very dangerous that UDP is likeminded party like the BJP that means they are camouflaging themselves as a regional party while their whole agenda is common to the agenda of the BJP.”

Referring to incidents happening across the country, the chief minister said when the BJP becomes strong we need to see these things which are being written on the walls.

“Whom they are likely to propose as the President of India, whom they are putting as chief ministers of the states… people from what type of background and mindset,” he said.

Further castigating the agenda of the BJP, he said, “Are we behaving like Pakistan…we are going towards that category with the kind of agenda that are already coming out of their cupboard, they have started slowly taking out their cards from their chests (which no longer closer to their chest)…releasing one by one.”

According to him, if the BJP is allowed like this then there will be no stopping them.
