SHILLONG, DEC 5 : Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma stressed on the need of the government to reach all the stakeholders under the “Mission Green” to safeguard the environment from further degradation. Speaking at the inaugural function of the one day state level stakeholders conclave under Mission Green organsied by the Meghalaya Green Mission on Thursday Sangma said the programme will require the involvement of stakeholders as volunteers. Stating that the programme is linked with many good things, he also deliberated on the IBDLP programme which revolves to provide a sustainable livelihood to the rural populace of the state.
Sangma even pointed out that government need to identify those people who are linked with activities that is linked with environmental degradation and necessary steps should be taken to stop the environment degradation. He said the government should be receptive to new technologies that can protect the environment.
Addressing the function earlier, Meghalaya additional chief secretary PBO Warjri underlined the need to protect environment by constructing environmental friendly houses and roads and he added that the town should be environmental free and cars should be less polluted.
Urban affairs minister Ampareen Lyngdoh also expressed concern over the continuous pollution of river bodies in the state.- By Our Reporter
It is easier said than done. The stake holders cannot do anything unless the Government has the will to enact the laws both existing and newly introduced laws.
Kong Ampareen is plead to concern for those affected LP teachers in addition to river pollution.
