SHILLONG, JUNE 16: Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma said the state government will take into consideration the views of the people on the issue of the proposed designated camps for the Achik National Volunteer Council – Breakaway ANVC (B) cadres
Replying to a supplementary by UDP legislator Embhahlang Syiemlieh during the question hours in the assembly on Monday, the chief minister informed that the state government has not yet taken any decision on setting up of the designated camps for the ANVC (B). He assured that the decision will be taken after taking into consideration the views of the people and all related aspect.
Syiemlieh had demanded the government ensure that the proposed designated camps for the ANVC (B) should be set up within the jurisdiction of the five districts of Garo Hills region. He said, “The government should not set up such camps in the Khasi hills or Jaintia hills region as there is strong opposition from people of the region.”
According to Syiemlieh the proposed setting up of the camps in Athiabari and Arodanga is being opposed by the people as they fear that having such camps in their areas the outfit might manage to lure the residents into join their group. – By Our Reporter
