SHILLONG, MAY 21: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has directed investigation into the recent HNLC’s statement and maintained that the ruling Congress under his leadership do not and will not associate with any terrorist organization.
In a statement issued via email on Sunday, Sangma, who is presently in Brussels, said that he has taken a serious note on the “malicious” press release (by HNLC) and directed all the authorities to further investigate and take action as per law.
The banned Khasi rebel outfit – Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) had earlier accused the CM of sending feelers for seeking the outfit’s support to the ruling Congress and its candidates for the forthcoming 2018 state elections.
“Last week, he (Mukul) had sent feelers towards our organization to support the Congress candidates in the entire Khasi and Jaintia hills for the forthcoming 2018 elections,” HNLC publicity secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw had stated on May 18.
Terming the HNLC’s statement as false, fabricated and malicious, the chief minister said, “It is further reiterated that Dr Mukul Sangma and the Indian National Congress do not and will not, directly or indirectly use or associate with any criminal or terrorist organization.”
He added that the chief minister and the INC will honour and respect the wisdom of the people of the state, who will collectively decide and mandate any leadership and political party to serve the people and the state.
The chief minister further warned any member or leader of any political, whether Congress or any political party, is trying to collude, conspire or hobnob with the HNLC, GNLA or any banned outfit.
“It is clear that if they are not legally authorized, they will be doing at their own risk and the law of the land shall prevail,” he added.
Sangma also pointed out that criminalization of politics have taken a serious toll on the overall well-being of the state and a reason for the backwardness of the state as a whole.
He accordingly declared, “The government reaffirms its commitment to deal, as per law, with all those indulging in the criminalization of politics at the cost of the interests of the people and the state as a whole.”
Meanwhile, the chief minister also maintained that “restoration of peace for prosperity” of all on sustainable basis remains as the committed agenda of the state government as per the manifesto of the Congress.
He also said that the government under his leadership has maintained a transparent and consistent position vis-a-vis dealing with terrorist and unlawful organisations operating in the state.
Sangma however stated that the government has created an enabling environment for any member of the militant or terrorist outfits to withdraw themselves from their respective organizations and assimilate with national mainstream thus participate in the development and growth process of the state.
“This option is always available to any remaining members of any militant or terrorist organization including the HNLC,” he added.
While the platform is available for all those who seek peace and development, the chief minister informed that the state has already strengthened and prepared its internal security apparatus to deal with and bring to justice those who wage war against our own people and the Nation.
