State least developed:CM

SHILLONG, SEPT 27: Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma confirmed the panel report of the former chief economic adviser and RBI governor Raghuram Rajan that Meghalaya is the least developed state contrary to what Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had recently said that Meghalaya was one of the “fastest” growing states not only in the north east but across the country.

Sangma at the sideline of the cabinet briefing told reporters on Friday, “If it is not true (Meghalaya is a least developed state), then why are our boys joining militants?”

Sangma also informed that during the meeting the state with the Planning Commission, Meghalaya had projected the growth rate of the state at 11 per cent. He said, “We told the Planning Commission that Meghalaya needs to grow at higher pace and the growth rate has been targeted at 11 per cent.” – By Our Reporter
