SHILLONG, MAY 10: The state CID continued its hunt and arrested the now infamous CMJ University registrar Mrinal Kanti Deb even as the deputy registrar Premlal Rai who was arrested yesterday was admitted in the Civil Hospital after he complained of some physical problems, which the police said was to avoid interrogation and police custody.
The CMJ director M. Kaur and human resource manager Juban Kharpuri who had applied for anticipatory bail but was rejected by the district court are said to be missing.
CID sleuths said on Friday, “We have arrested the registrar today evening and more arrests are likely to follow.”
Both Deb and Rai have been booked under sections 420, 466 and 406 of the IPC.
With regard to Rai public prosecutor IC Jha said, “The police had wanted Rai to be remanded in 10 days police custody so he can be further interrogated. But since he has been hospitalised, we have to wait till he is discharged.”
However the CMJ University chancellor Chandra Mohan Jha is still at large and the CID sleuths said that he will also soon be arrested.- By Our Reporter
