TURA, SEPT 19: An Oscar nominated Mizo film titled, “Kima’s Lodge – Beyond the class” was on Monday screened at District Auditorium in Tura, West Garo hills as part of the statewide ongoing children film festival titled – “The Travelling Players”.
The film centres around three young children, who were curious to discover the wilderness of the jungles, bunking their classes.
The statewide Children Film Festival organised by Children’s Film Society of India (CFSI), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Cinedarbaar in collaboration with Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Government of Meghalaya was held at Tura.
Two films were screened as part of the festival, which was attended by children’s from different schools of Tura.
The festival is also being held in Jowai and Shillong this week.
CFSI has selected four films for the festival — “Kima’s Lode – Beyond the class”, “Mother I Love you”, “Krish, Trish & Baltiboy” and “The Goal”.
The festival underlined the message for the children to understand the rich cultural heritage and tradition, which needs to be ingrained through the powerful medium of films.
Satyaraj Rai, coordinator of the festival is of the view that the initiative will strengthen the cultural roots of the children and connect them to the mainstream.
“We want the children to learn and appreciate the world around them. Our films will excite, educate and entertain the children”, said Satyaraj Rai, CFSI, North East Coordinator.
The children were enthusiasts about the film as they could connect themselves with the story and the essence of the films. Speaking on the occasion retired joint secretary to the government of Meghalaya Ronald Sangma mooted that Garos should also venture into filmmaking.
Deputy Director of DIPR C Passah hoped that the festival would promote friendship and cooperation amongst the children.-By Our Reporter
