SHILLONG, NOV 21: Meghalaya chief secretary KS Kropha said that unless the banks across the state receives Rs 500 and Rs
1000 denomination notes people will continue to face difficulties even as he informed that he had taken up the supply of the small denomination notes to the state with the union finance ministry and the RBI chief general manager station in Shillong.
Kropha said that the state government efforts is on to impress upon the union government and the RBI to make these two small denomination notes available to the banks across the state as quickly as possible so that the problem face by the people due to shortage of small denomination notes is alleviated much before Christmas.
Handing over a bouquet of flowers to the Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank (MCAB) Managing Director OAJ Nongbri during a simple function organised by news website www.ohmeghalaya.com at the Apex Bank complex on Monday for being the most customers’ friendly bank in the state, Kropha lauded the bank staff and implored on them to continue providing such excellent services to its customers.
Kropha said, “Bank should be people friendly, especially during times when people are facing difficulties and I appreciate this noble initiative of www.ohmeghalaya.com for undertaking a survey of finding out which banks in the city is more people friendly”. He said he appreciated the gesture of the news website of taking the trouble of conducting a survey and concluding that the Shillong branch of the Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank Limited was the most “customers friendly.”
The news website had undertaken an eight days survey of all the banks of the state a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the demonetization of the Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes. The MCAB was the first bank in the city to provide its customers chair and drinking water when the bank had to deal with serpentine queue. It was also the first bank to have separate queue for senior citizens.
Editor-In-Chief of Batesi TV and Meghalaya Electronic Media Association (MEMA) president Kyrmenlang Uriah felt that the initiative of recognizing hard work and efficiency is worth praising.
Giving away the token of appreciation to MCAB general manager AB Purkayastha and MCAB Shillong branch manager M Swer, Uriah said, “We as journalists are always busy pointing out the flaws in system and people forgetting that good deeds are also a positive story that needs to be highlighted.”
Uriah felt that for once a news website is making a departure by recognizing the hard work, sincerity and efficiency put in by the employees of an organization to ensure that the customers are treated well.
While accepting the token of appreciation for being the best customers’ friendly bank, MCAB MD Nongbri while giving the credit to his staff including the branch manager said, “We will always try to give the best service to the customers of our banks.”
Later Kropha took the employees of the bank by surprise by going to each one of them and acknowledging their hard work and sincerity by giving flower and encouraging them to continue their good work.
