SHILLONG, DEC 23: The Centre will take a call on issues including the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA) after discussion with the chief minister, Conrad K Sangma on his next visit to New Delhi.
A statement issued by the Raj Bhavan on Wednesday informed that the Governor, Satya Pal Malik had met Union Home Minister Amit Shah yesterday and discussed issues relevant to the state including the MRSSA.
“However, it was conveyed that any major decision on any or all matters raised by Governor will only be taken once Union Home Minister meets and discusses with Chief Minister of Meghalaya Conrad Sangma in New Delhi in the Chief Minister’s next visit to New Delhi which may be facilitated shortly,” said the statement.
Earlier, Malik had assured to convince the Centre on the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security (Amendment) Bill, 2020.
He however maintained that the inner line permit (ILP) was not his agenda since the issue has to be discussed between the central and state government.
Stating that the MRSSA is doable, the governor had said, “Basically this MRSSA must be passed but I will take the opinion of the MHA, I will try to convince them that this is doable, you do it and after that lots of problems will be solved.”
It may be mentioned that there has been growing demand from several quarters for immediate approval of the MRSS (Amendment) Bill, 2020 pending the Centre’s nod to implement the ILP in Meghalaya.
