SHILLONG, JUN 10: BJP leader and Pynthorumkhrah MLA AL Hek Wednesday said the Centre has assured him that the proposal to grant ‘Institute of National Importance’ status to NEIGRIHMS is under active consideration.
Speaking to reporters, Hek said he had earlier taken up the matter with the former Health Minister and received a positive response.
“Regarding INI of NEIGRIHMS, I had written to the former Health Minister and he had acknowledged to me that it is under consideration,” Hek said.
He added that he reiterated the demand when Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda visited the state recently to inaugurate a hospital. Hek said NEIGRIHMS employees also submitted a representation to the Union Minister during the visit.
“Recently when Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda came to inaugurate a hospital, I got an opportunity to meet him. Employees of NEIGRIHMS also gave him a letter requesting that NEIGRIHMS be declared an Institute of National Importance. He told us he would examine the proposal. He assured me that it will be considered,” Hek said.
