Centre sanctions 206 cr

SHILLONG, JUNE 25:The Water Resources department of the Meghalaya government earlier this month has got the nod to initiate the Surface Minor Irrigation scheme under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY) – Har Khet Ko Pani to irrigate agricultural lands in the state.

Minister in-charge Water Resources, Metbah Lyngdoh informed media persons that the department recently received a letter from the Centre notifying the department  that an amount of Rs 206 crore under the Surface Minor Irrigation scheme of the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY) – Har Khet Ko Pani.

Lyngdoh said that the centre gave its approval for the Surface Minor Irrigation scheme as per the proposal sent by the state’s water resources department.

The state’s water resources minister also informed that the funding pattern for this particular scheme is in the 90:10 ratio wherein the central will provide 90 percent of the funds while the state will have to shell out 10 percent.

Apart from Meghalaya the other states who are beneficiaries of the scheme are the other northeastern states, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jamme & Kashmir.

According to Lyngdoh, the central government will pay the amount in three installments spread over three financial years and in 2018-19 the state will receive Rs 63 crore out of the Rs 206 crore.

The Meghalaya water resources minister also informed that this particular scheme will have to be completed by March, 2021.

Meanwhile, Lyngdoh who also holds the Tourism department informed media persons that the state government was expecting an assistance of upto Rs 300 crore which was proposed to the centre for various schemes.
