SHILLONG, JULY 3: Union Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region (Independent charge), Dr Jitendra Singh attended the ancient Behdeinkhlam festival of the pnars held at Aitnar – a sacred pool, in Jowai, the district headquarter of West Jaintia Hills.
Addressing on the occasion, Singh reiterated the government’s commitment to ensure fast-track development in the Northeast region.
Singh said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not only confined to the development of the region, but also to the cultural and social growth of the region.
Singh, who became the first Union minister to attend the festival, which concluded today, asserted that he represents the goal of rectifying and improving cultural dimensions.
The minister also expressed his satisfaction not only of the law and order situation but also on the development aspect in the region.
Later while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the Behdeinkhlam festival, Singh said there has been a “sea-change” in the North East in comparison to what it was 4-5 years ago.
He said the people of Northeast are extremely satisfied and looking forward to the Prime Minister as someone who will actually deliver in the manner which was not happening earlier.
Reiterating the motto of the government of service at the doorstep, the minister said “The DoNER ministry has started the process of having a rotational camp secretariat in the eight states of the northeast so that the confidence can be built up among the people of the region for the ministry and that people do not have to travel all the way to Delhi or the DoNER’s headquarter for any assistance”.
The minister also went and met the local people around the Festival field.
