SHILLONG, JULY 20: Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said that the delay in releasing the pending salary for the current academic year to the SSA teachers was due to non-release of adhoc installment by the Centre government.
The minister had informed this to the delegation of Meghalaya Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Schools Association (MSSASA) which met him recently to discuss on the matter.
“He (Lahkmen) informed that the delay was due to non-release of the adhoc installment to the state government by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD),” MSSASA president Aristotle C Rymbai said in a statement issued here on Friday.
In the memorandum submitted to the minister, the association has urged the state government to consider allocation of funds from the state budget for payment of the pending three months salary of current academic year and eight month arrear salary of financial year 2016-17.
Aristotle said that the minister, who also informed that the government is very much concerned over the irregular release of salary to the SSA teachers in the state, assured that the state government will try its best to find out a permanent solution to the problem.
Further, he said that the minister also informed that the education department have also send a proposal to the finance department of the government for allocation of funds from the state budget to SSA-SEMAM for paying of the SSA teachers for two months.
“According to him, the matter is under process so that the teachers can manage their livelihood for a time being till MHRD release the funds to the state government,” he said adding “We were also informed by the minister that he had already written to the chief minister for allocation of funds for releasing the pending arrears to the teachers at earliest possible.”
At the same time, the minister informed that as per conversation he had with the Chief Minister who is in New Delhi, the state government is trying to get the funds released by the MHRD in the next few weeks, he said.
The association has also sought the intervention of the state government into the problems faced by the first batch (2013-15) and second batch (2015-17) teachers who are undergoing the Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) Programme in the state.
On this, the MSSASA president said that the minister has assured that the government will look into the matter.
“The minister informed that the chief minister will also meet the competent authority of the NIOS for discussion on the problems faced by teachers,” he said.
