SHILLONG, NOV 17: To avoid recurrence of another scam tainted CMJ university, the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has demanded that the Meghalaya government institute a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities in Techno Global University which was set up in 2008. Acting on several complaints questioning the style of functioning of the Techno Global University, a delegation of the HYC Mawlai circle led by its president Donboklang Kharlyngdoh conducted an inspection on Monday.
The university has been operating from the premises of the Shillong Polytechnic at Mawlai Kynton Massar.
“We demand the state government to immediately institute an inquiry by the CBI into the setting up of this university besides its style of operation which has raise a lot of doubts amongst the students fraternity of the state,” Kharlyngdoh told reporters after the inspection.
He said during the inspection it has been found that there are lots of irregularities and anomalies in the functioning of this private university adding there is completely no proper classrooms, laboratories, teachers common rooms, and other facilities.
“We have waited more than two hours to see the students and teachers, but surprisingly this university has not even a single student or a teacher,” Kharlyngdoh said adding it has only one in -charge and a chowkidar.
The TGU is an institute offering courses in higher studies that include B.Tech, M.Tech, Ph.D and others.
The HYC further questioned how the state government blindly recommends the setting up of such a university in the state without verifying its credential or objectives.
The student leader claimed that as per official information, the university was approved by the state government in 2008, during the tenure of the former minister in charge education Manas Chaudhury and was passed by the Meghalaya State Legislative Act, 2008.
“The way the government is blindly approving the setting up of this private university makes us believe that there is something behind the scene,” he said. He also alleged that there are many students who have enrolled in the TGU by submitting forms online and have also completed paying their fees for the courses they have selected.
Kharlyngdoh said that the HYC want the CBI to conduct a thorough investigation as to how many students have been enrolled and how many have receive certificates from this university.- By Our Reporter
