SHILLONG, OCT 19: Five persons were caught by police while they were attempting to desecrate the graveyards at Lawmali on Saturday night.
The accused were picked up by police at 10.30 pm yesterday night from deep inside Lawmali graveyard when they were attempting to desecrate the graveyards, East Khasi hills SP M Kharkrang informed.
According to preliminary interrogation, Kharkhrang said the five are also suspected to be involved in earlier cases including the case in which nine graves were desecrated, two week ago.
They have been identified as Rapme Dkhar (22) of Nongrim hills, Brandon Jyrwa (21) of Jaiaw Laitdom, Raphel Waniang (21) of Upper Mawpre, Kyrshanlang Ryntahing (19) and Ferdinand Massar (35) of Mawlai, the SP said.
Kharkhrang also informed that they were remanded to 14 days judicial custody.
Yesterday, the accused had also given false names to police yesterday. However, on Sunday their actual names were ascertained. A case of giving false information to police is also being taken up against them, Kharkrang said.- By Our Reporter
