SHILLONG, MAY 5: The troops of Border Security Force once again foiled the attempt of smugglers on International Border and apprehended four Indian cattle smugglers with cattle.
Acting on a tip-off, the BSF troops deployed at Kachhuadogri, West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya launched Spl. Operation near the International Border. The party was lead by the Commanding Officer 75 Bn BSF himself, observed some cattle smugglers proceeding towards International border with huge number of cattle.
The Ops party challenged them to stop but the smugglers did not stop and assaulted aggressively along with 30 to 40 villagers of Belabore towards BSF troops. They attacked on BSF party with dah and other sharp edged weapons.
On sensing imminent danger Ops party retaliated and fired 02 rds with personal weapon below the knee level on smugglers, resultantly two smugglers injured on their leg below knee and later apprehended. Injured duo identified as (one) Namseng Sangma (35) and Dipuesh Marak (29).
The injured persons were evacuated to PHC Dalu by BSF troops. Two more smugglers namely Thapa Marak (60 yrs) and Brenath Sangma were also apprehended from the spot. All the four apprehended persons handed over to PS Dalu.
Prices of cattle have gone up in recent months in Bangladesh after the BSF checked the illegal channels of cattle supply to Bangladesh. The BSF has continuously been in its drive against the cattle smugglers. The Border Security Force has intensified its operations on the Indo-Bangladesh Border to prevent Trans-border crimes. It has also sought cooperation of local police to enhance operation against these cattle smugglers in hinterland also.
