SHILLONG, AUG 13: A delegation of the casual employees working under the State Sports Council (SSC) sought intervention of chief minister Mukul Sangma for immediate implementation of their proposed revise salary.
“We urged the state government to immediately implement the proposed revise salary of the casual employees,” Casual Workers president Lucy Kharpuri said in a memorandum submitted to the chief minister on Thursday.
She informed that the sports department had already prepared the proposed salary statement showing the list of casual employees who falls under the revision of wages.
“Though we are grateful to the department for having prepared the proposal to revise our wages but we are concerned that till date it is has not been implemented given the fact that we are drawing a meagre salary which is not enough to meet our daily requirement,” Kharpuri said.
On August 5, over hundreds of casual employees had staged an indefinite cease-work as a m ark of protest against the state government’s failure to hike their salaries.
Kharpuri had stated, “We were assured by the sports minister Zenith Sangma that the government would soon raise our salaries from Rs 2000 to Rs 4800.”
According to her, the delegation in their representation to the sports minister had proposed hike of Rs 160 for all the casual employees which is as the per direction of the labour department.
She also pointed out the demand was also made as the casual workers are facing difficulties to survive on meager Rs 2000.- By Our Reporter
