SHILLONG, FEB 21: The police have registered a case against deputy chief minister and United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate Bindo M Lanong under the under the Representation of people’s Act, 1951 for violating based on the FIR lodge by magistrate TSR Marak for violating the election code of conduct by holding a public meeting at 7.30 pm at the Cleve colony community hall after 4 pm.
As per the notification of the Election Commission of India, electioneering and holding of public meetings have come to an end at 4 pm Thursday for the February 23 Meghalaya assembly elections. Therefore anyone who is found to violate the directive of the ECI is liable for action.
The magistrate found that Lanong, who is contesting from the Laitumkhrah constituency, had violated the ECI directive as he was holding a public meeting after 7.30 pm when the rule clearly states that public meetings and electioneering are disallowed after 4 pm on Thursday.
Based on the FIR of the magistrate that was lodge with the Laitumkhrah police station, the police registered a case under case no 171212013 u/s 126 and u/s 188 IPC of the Representation of people’s Act, 1951. By Our Reporter
