Cabinet decision: Teachers’ salary enhanced, judicial reforms in process

 

Shillong, Nov 28: Succumbing to the demand of teachers for enhancing their salaries the cabinet Wednesday decided to increase the salaries of both ad hoc lower primary teachers in 1225 schools and ad hoc upper primary teachers in 844 schools in the state.

Briefing reporters after the cabinet meeting, Meghalaya education minister RC Laloo said, “The salary of the ad hoc lower primary school teachers has been increased to Rs  6000 per month while Rs 8000 for two and Rs 9000 for one upper primary school teachers.

Meghalaya government last revised the salary for the lower primary in April 1, 2007 and for upper primary school teachers in April 1, 2010.

Laloo informed a total amount of Rs 1,764 lakhs is required to meet the additional expenditure for the enhancement of the salaries of the teachers which the cabinet has approved.  The enhancement of salaries will be effective from December 1, 2012.

The cabinet also decided to submit its proposals to the centre for improving the ‘judicial system’ as per the direction of the union government which has expressed concerns over pending cases in the higher and lower courts of the country.

The union government has sent proposals to all the states in the country seeking their views and opinion on the matter.

Meghalaya deputy chief minister Bindo M Lanong, who is holding the law portfolio, informed cabinet has decided to submit to the union ministry of law on the matter its judicial reform proposal.

Saying that the union government wanted improvement, effectiveness  and uniformity in the judicial system in the entire country,Lanong informed the reforms were discussed in a meeting held between the all India chief ministers’ and chief justices of the High Court.

Lanong informed that  setting up of special courts such as fast track court, family court, morning and evening courts have been proposed during the conference which is being done because of the need for speedy trial on offences committed against minor and females.” –By Our Reporter
