SHILLONG, OCT 29: The state Cabinet on Monday approved the Meghalaya State Policy for Setting up of Weighbridges, 2018 which seeks to regulate the installing of weighbridges across the state and also to prevent revenue leakages.
“We have accepted the proposal of the Transport department for having the Meghalaya State Policy for Setting up of Weighbridges, 2018,” Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong told reporters after the meeting held here.
Tynsong said in the absence of a policy, the government does not have any thrust area on how many weighbridges needs to be installed.
Informing that the policy will soon be notified, he however said that the policy is not for private weighbridges but for those installed by the different departments which include forest, transport, mining & geology, district councils.
“By having this policy we wanted to block all the leakages wherever possible. We will do our best to ensure there is no leakages happen at any point of time,” he said.
According to him, the transport department alone is having a total of 16 weighbridges.
