Teachers’ salary approved

SHILLONG, AUG 1: The state government on Monday approved the proposal for salary enhancement of over 3000 teachers in adhoc secondary and higher secondary schools.

Addressing newsmen after the cabinet meeting, Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Education RC Laloo said, “The cabinet has agreed to enhance the grant in-aid to the various managing committees (SMCs) of adhoc secondary and higher secondary schools, which will be made effective immediately.”

With this enhancement, he informed that the salaries to be paid by the SMCs should not be less than Rs 20,000 for secondary school teachers, Rs 24, 000 for higher secondary school teachers and Rs 22, 000 for science teachers.

According to him, earlier teachers in secondary, higher secondary and science were drawing salaries of Rs 10, 000, Rs 11,000 and Rs 12, 000 respectively.

There are 2163 teachers in 380 secondary schools, 434 teachers in 70 higher secondary schools and 611 science teachers in 610 schools, all falling under adhoc system.

Meanwhile, the state cabinet has also approved the appointment of two assistant teachers in commerce and business study in Pine Mount School, Shillong under 3F.

According to deputy chief minister, the teachers in the two subjects have all the while been appointed on contractual basis despite the school already starting its commerce stream.

The advertisement to the posts was floated in which interview was also conducted on April 12 this year. The two assistant teachers recommended for the posts will first be given appointment under 3F and later will be regularized by the MPSC, he said.-By Our Reporter
