Cabinet approves renaming of Agri dept

SHILLONG, AUG 13: The state Cabinet has decided to rename the Agriculture department as Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare department.

Announcing this after a meeting held here on Tuesday, deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong said that the proposal was in line with the government of India’s decision to rename the Ministry of Agriculture as Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare.

“Henceforth with the approval of the Cabinet today, the Agriculture department will be known as Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare department,” he said.
