SHILLONG, APR 13: The Meghalaya government has decided to extend the lockdown till April 30, as part of its precautionary measures to prevent spread of COVID-19 pandemic into the state.
The decision was taken by the Cabinet during its meeting chaired by the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday, one day ahead before the 21 days nationwide lockdown ends.
It may be mentioned here that the state is yet to register a single case of COVID-19 infection.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said that the cabinet has discussed about the restrictions after the nationwide lockdown.
“We have decided that the lockdown will continue with effect from April 15 till April 30,” he announced.
Tynsong also informed that the inter-state movement will continue to be sealed from all entry-exit points throughout the state.
The cabinet has also decided to restrict inter-district movement within the state. “Based on the inputs received from the different deputy commissioners, it is decided that inter-district movement will not be allowed till such time that the government feels it necessary to revisit (the same),” he said.
Tynsong however maintained that migrant workers from one district and who are stranded in shelter homes of another district will be allowed to move out of these shelter homes to their respective houses within the state.
The transportation for such migrant workers will be monitored by the transport department and the concerned deputy commissioners, he added.
Asked, Tynsong said that patients from different districts who require coming to Shillong for medical checkup and treatment will be allowed provided that they have to apply for passes from the concerned authority.
The deputy chief minister further informed that the deputy commissioners in districts having inter-state border with Assam to examine whether operationalizing of local village markets is feasible. “We leave it to their (DCs) wisdom to execute the decision taken by the cabinet today,” he said.
The cabinet has also revoked its decision taken earlier to allow movement of private transportation from April 15.
“After reviewing our last decision, we have decided that private transportation will not be allowed till further orders in view of the prevailing situation,” he said.
