SHILLONG, JULY 25: The state Cabinet has approved the proposal for the creation of the Meghalaya Community Rural Development Services and Meghalaya Community Rural Engineering Services under the Community & Rural Development (C&RD) department.
After the cabinet meeting held here on Wednesday, deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong said that the proposal was lying pending since the previous government does not dare to take a decision on the matter.
“However despite the huge financial implication, we have today taken a decision that the department should have the Meghalaya Community Rural Development Services and Engineering Service in place,” he said.
With this, the deputy chief minister said the department will now have its own cadre right from the level of a gram sevak to the level of the block development officer (BDO).
He said that till today, the practice was the officers of the department were on deputation from different departments like personnel, veterinary, audit and others.
The state government has decided to enhance the grant-in-aid for over 700 pre-primary school teachers with effect from August 1.
Tynsong said, “We have approved the proposal for enhancing the grant-in-aid to 710 pre-primary teachers in both government and non-government schools.”
He said that the state government all these years right from 2012 has been extending grant of Rs 6,000 per month per teacher. “However, the government has decided to increase this amount to Rs 12,000 per month per teacher with effect from August 1,” he said.
He said that the state government will have to shell out an amount of Rs 5 crore annually after enhancement of the grant-in-aid.
Meanwhile, the state Cabinet has approved the recommendation of the Advisory Committee for the Meghalaya Day Award.
Tynsong said that the committee has recommended three persons for the Award.
It has recommended the name of Bertha Gyndykes Dkhar from Bethany Society, Shillong for receiving the Patogan Sangma Award for social service, he said.
The others include Handam R Marak, craftsman for U Tirot Sing Award for Arts & Culture and Aiborlang Khongjee, a footballer, for U Kiang Nangbah Award for excellence in the field of sports.
