Shillong, Sept 5: To streamline and improve the quality of education in the state, the cabinet Wednesday approved the implementation of the “Rules for Recognition of Secondary School % Higher Secondary School.”
All existing schools (secondary and higher secondary) as well as those newly established schools in the state will now fall under the ambit of the rule.
Chief Minister Mukul Sangma told reporters, “We have decided to approve the Act as it will open up opportunity for quality-education in the state.”
The act stipulates that anybody who is eager to set up schools in the state and also those secondary and higher secondary schools who desire to get the state government’s ‘recognition’, will have to strictly follow the provisions laid down in the Act.” The provisions of this act includes right from the building infrastructure, classrooms, teachers’ qualification besides others.”
Sangma informed that under this Act, the teachers of the secondary schools are required to have ‘a degree certificate with B.Ed’ and teachers at the higher secondary level should be Master degree holder with B.Ed”.
The cabinet also proposed amendment of the act dealing with the setting up of International Open University and Ranjitlal Pvt University in the state.-By Our Reporter
