SHILLONG, SEPT 13: South Shillong legislator Sanbor Shullai today unveiled the bust of former Laban MLA and MDC Late Bhaskar Choudhury in his memory at Laban in the city here.
Addressing on the occasion, Shullai lauded the efforts taken up by the Raid Laban Sports and Socio Culture Organization (RLSSCO) for remembering the contributions of former legislators of the constituency through such initiatives.
Stating that organization had also erected a similar bust in memory of former MLA Thrang Rngad, he said, “This is to ensure that the message of oneness and spirit of brotherhood will spread to every nook and corner of the state.”
According to him, Laban is one of the oldest cosmopolitan areas which was established right from the British era. “We are taught to respect each other irrespective of caste, greed and religion,” he added.
Earlier in his short speech, Assembly Secretariat’s Commissioner and Secretary Andrew Simons made a brief recollection of the contributions made by late Choudhury, who elected two terms as Laban MLA from 1978 to 1988.
“He (late Choudhury) was a polite and warm person with a broad outlook and as a member of the state assembly, he was also a good orator,” he said.
Before being elected to the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, late Choudhury became the member of the district council in 1972 till 1977. He passed away in September 12, 1994.
Also present on the occasion were the family members of the former legislator, who also paid floral tribute to his bust.
