BSNL’s rural connectivity

SHILLONG, JAN 19: To improve rural connectivity in Meghalaya, the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is working on its proposal to lay national optical fibre across rural Meghalaya so that villagers are better connected with the rest of the world.

BSNL General Manager John Chrisostom  said that under the scheme, each gram panchayat (shnongs) in Meghalaya will be provided with 10 mbps broadband connectivity. He said work is going  and rural Meghalaya is likely be benefitted within a year’s time when the work is completed.

The BSNL had earlier provided over 5132 village public telephones besides wimax technology to improve the connectivity in the remote part of the state. – By Our Reporter
