SHILLONG, JUN 17: The Border Security Force (BSF) has seized contraband items worth more than Rs 39 lakh along the Indo-Bangla border in East Khasi Hills on Wednesday.
Acting on a tip off, BSF troops launched a search operation in the border area of BOP Lyngkhat and foiled the attempt of smugglers by confiscating 160 mobile phones worth Rs 25 lakh, which were hidden in the bushes by the smugglers for further crossing them over to Bangladesh.
In a similar incident, BSF troops confiscated contraband items including clothing and cosmetics worth more than Rs 14 lakh in South Garo Hills district while being smuggled to Bangladesh. All the seized items were handed over to the Customs office, Baghmara.
