SHILLONG, JULY 27: The BSFseized 437.73 CFT of Sal wood worth Rs 13,15,275 on international border while it was being smuggled from an area under South Garo Hills district to Bangladesh.
The rivers flowing towards Bangladesh are used for smuggling of forest wood, BSF official said. It is said that the timber wood, in the form of logs, are dropped in the rivers with identification mark the and same is collected in Bangladesh.
The seized items have been handed over to forest department for further disposal. During the last few months, BSF also seized 2189.71 CFT timber wood worth Rs 3,54,838.
On international border of Meghalaya state, the estimated cost of same wood in international market is more than a crore.- By Our Reporter
