SHILLONG, SEPT 25: BSF has been deployed in East Jaintia hills to assist the local police in controlling the law and order situation after two people were killed in a firing on Wednesday. The law and order situation in East Jaintia hills district went for a toss during the economic blockade with mob attacking the police on Tuesday and on Wednesday two of the agitators were killed in a firing.

According to a statement issued by the BSF on Thursday, the BSF teams left for East Jaintia hills on Wednesday after two companies of the border force were pulled out of Ranikor that had been deployed for counter insurgency operations.

The indefinite economic blockade called by the Movement for Indigenous Peoples ‘Rights and Livelihood –Meghalaya (MIPRL) to protest against ban imposed on coal rat hole mining in the state went wrong in East Jaintia hills when the police had face the ire of the agitators after mob burned the vehicle of the assistant SP and also damage the vehicle of additional district magistrate of Khliehriat.

BSF statement said that the two companies that were moving to Jowai and Khliehriat faced public wrath in NH – 44 after the death of two civilians and injury to five other people in police firing on Wednesday.

The BSF that was deployed for Khliehriat could not move because of road blockade near Wapung village and were diverted to Jowai on Wednesday. After halting at Jowai for the night, BSF reached Khliehriat Green Valley Cement Factory on Friday to assist the local administration in maintaining law and order.- By Our Reporter
