SHILLONG, NOV 25: BSF troops deployed in West Garo hills apprehended three GNLA militants in Nokchi when they were coming from Purakhasia on a bike. The militants have been identified as (i) Roneth Ch Marak@ Ilbert (21 yrs) (ii) Ringaing Ch Marak @ Kaneth (23 yrs) (iii) Modil R Marak (20 yrs).
After questioning it was found that Roneth Ch Marak and Ringaing Ch Marak, who underwent training in 2012 and worked under area Comdr Simbat were involved in many illegal activities after completion of their training. One memory card was also recovered from Ringaing@ Kaneth containing the video of GNLA training and his photo posing with AK-47.
BSF has tightened security at several check points and enhanced the vigil at the border as well as in the hinterland after the recent inputs on increased movements of GNLA and other insurgents groups.
BSF troops also seized 398 Cft wooden logs, 1556 bottles of liquor, huge quantity of bamboos & coal and other contraband items worth value over 21 lakhs while being smuggled out from India to Bangladesh during last week.
The apprehended persons and seized items have been handed over to the police for further action.- By Our Reporter
