SHILLONG, FEB 11: BSF arrested five smugglers from West Garo Hills district on Monday and seized huge cache of phensedyl which were meant for smuggling out to neighbouring Bangladesh. Acting on tip off, the BSF intercepted a Tata Sumo (ML-07-A-4483) and apprehended three smugglers near Kachuadogri village of the district.
The arrested have been identified as Abdul Faruk (34), Abdul Awal (38) from Jurdanga village under Dhubri district of Assam and Mukul Hassan (19) from Mahenderganj, South West Garo hills.Over 563 bottles of Phensydyl worth Rs 2.25 lakh besides 3 mobile phones and Rs 17, 500 were seized from their possession.
On the information provided by them, the BSF apprehended two more smugglers identified as Bishen N. Sangma(26) and Cheng R. Marak (20) both from Gasuapara village of South West Garo hills who had come near Jatrakona to receive the consignment.
The phensedyles were being brought from Mankachar area of Assam to border area of Meghalaya for smuggling to Bangladesh for higher price.
The arrested with the seized items have been handed over to the police. – By Our Reporter
