SHILLONG, JUNE 1: National bravery award winner Angelica Tynsong has been given the opportunity to study in a school at Jaipur, Rajasthan with the full support of the Indian Council for Child Welfare (ICCW).

Tynsong (14) of Pahamrioh village in Ri Bhoi district received the bravery award from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February this year for her commendable act of rescuing her 6-month-old brother from their house which was engulfed by fire on January, 2015.

“She (Tynsong) will be joining her new school in Jaipur shortly,” village headman K Suting told reporters at a press conference on Wednesday.

He informed that after she bagged the national award, the Indian Council for Child Welfare (ICCW) agreed to support her studies till the time that she graduates.

Recalling the incident, the young brave-heart who dared to enter the house when there was nobody from the village said, “I don’t know but the love I felt for my baby brother gave me the strength to push my way through the fire and take him out safely.”

Everybody in the village who witnessed the incident was amazed by the act of 13 year old girl, the headman added.

Tynsong expressed her heartfelt thanks to the people who were instrumental to ensure that she gets the national recognition for her act of bravery.

Naming a few, she said, “I thanked the district deputy commissioner, SP, MLA, MDC and the NGOs for all their support.”

Meanwhile, a concerned citizen Alphonbor Kharsyntiew lamented that there are many Angelicas in the state who are yet to get such recognition because of lack of awareness.

He said the ICCW is giving recognition to such brave-hearts and is committed to take care of educational interest besides free travelling allowances and reservation in central jobs.

“Therefore, we should encouraged such young children to come forward as they deserve to be recognized for such bravery,” Kharsyntiew said.-By Our Reporter
