SHILLONG, APR 12: The court of session judge AM Ripnar sentenced Mehboob Ansari to life imprisonment and additional fine of Rs 25, 000 for the murder of his own five-year-old nephew in 2011.
Ansari was sentenced to life imprisonment, informed East Khasi hills SP M Kharkrang said on Tuesday.
On November 28, 2011 one Md Illiaz Ansari of Lower Nongrim Hills, Shillong lodged a written complaint at Laitumkhrah police station that on November 28, the same year, his five-year-old son went missing from his house and later he got a demand for ransom of Rs 3 lakhs.
After registering the case, police took up the investigation and in the process the convicted person was arrested who confessed to having murdered the child and concealed the body in a jungle at Laitkor Peak, Kharkrang said.
Mehboob was the uncle of the victim.
On completion of investigation, police filed the charge sheet against him and being convinced with the prosecution story, the court convicted the accused, Kharkhrang said.
The case was investigated by then Sub-Inspector Belario R. Marak, and supervised by the then Addl. Superintendent of Police (City) Vivek Syiem.-By Our Reporter
