SHILLONG, SEPT 27: The official vehicle of the Inspector General of Police (CID) BR Rana was set on fire after unidentified miscreants lobbed it with petrol bomb at his official residence at fourth forlong on Friday afternoon.
Police, however, said that no one was injured in the petrol bomb attack. A high ranking police officer said, “Preliminary investigation has revealed that the petrol bomb attack is by some pro-ILP activists but nobody has been arrested so far.”
This is the first time that a high ranking police officer vehicle has been attacked.
The attack was carried out during the second and final day of the office picketing called by the ngos who are demanding for the implementation of the ILP in Meghalaya.
Normal functioning in some of the government offices and financial institutions in Meghalaya was paralysed due to the
office picketing.
The overall attendance was recorded at around 60 percent in the state.
So far, fifty-five cases have been registered under the Meghalaya Maintenance of Public Order Act relating to assaults, attempted arson, mischief and others and 40 volunteers of the pro-ILP groups have been arrested.
Two additional CRPF companies also arrived in Shillong on Friday to augment the security in the state. An official said more troops would arrive soon to maintain law and order.- By Our Reporter
