BJYM memo to state HM

SHILLONG, JUNE 17: The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) demanded immediate strengthening and reformation of the state home department in view of the deteriorating law and order situation in the state particularly in Garo hills region.

In a seven-point charter of demand submitted to the state home minister Roshan Warjri on Tuesday, the BJYM said, “There is need to immediately strengthened and reform the home department with effective mechanism.”

“The government has to provide and ensure security and protection to the common man and the women,” it said while asking the government to introspect on the failure of the police force to combat militancy and the rise of militant groups in the Garo hills region.

Referring to gruesome killing of 35 years old lady by the GNLA, BJYM president Egenstar Kurkalang said, “We demand the government to ensure that the culprits who  killed Joshina M Sangma must be punished as per legal procedure.”

He suggested that the government find ways to prevent the youth from involving in any unlawful activities or joining militant group. He said, “The government must have the objective to understand and listen to the youths’ grievances, their voices and visions in order to bring a futuristic, constructive effort s and cooperation.”

The BJYM also demanded to ensure the safe return of Anand Kumar, the branch manager of SBI Ampati branch who was kidnapped by miscreants on Monday morning.  According to the youth wing of the BJP, the staffs in government offices are very insecure and do not want to be posted in Garo hills because of extortions and kidnappings

Kurkalang also stated that the increase in the unlawful activities in the society and by militant groups, especially in Garo hills region, has caused harm and insecurity to the common man and disturb peace and tranquility hampering the development of the state.- By Our Reporter
