SHILLONG, APR 4: The BJP said it is confident that the party would be elected to power in Assam, whose first phase of assembly polls has started today.
Addressing newsmen on Monday, BJP national spokesperson and in-charge of Meghalaya Nalin Kohli said, “We are hoping that the BJP would be elected to office and our alliance will form the government.”
Stating that there is a favourable mood towards the BJP, he said, “Two things in Assam – there is clear anger against 15 years of Mr Tarun Gogoi’s rule, 10 years where you have prime minister from Assam and 10 years at the centre.”
“There is no excuse in Assam for lack of development when the centre and the state were Congress governments for minimum 10 years together,” he added.
Claiming that the vote share of the party has gone up, Kohli said, “When we contest election, government formation is a clear agenda, we have chief ministerial candidate – Himanta Biswas who joined the party.”
He further claimed that people from other political parties joining the party is also a good indicator for the party.
“I think we have a positive thing,” the BJP leader said while adding every election is important in its own context but every election does not have national implication.-By Our Reporter
