SHILLONG, JULY 30: Meghalaya unit of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) urged the state government to erect a statue of former President APJ Abdul Kalam in the state’s capital. “We will urge the state government to erect a statue of Dr Kalam in the city so that students in particular can remember him and get inspiration,” State BJP general secretary Dipayan Chakraborty said in a statement on Thursday.
Dr Kalam breathed his last in a city hospital of cardiac arrest, after he collapsed while delivering his lecture to the IIM students on July 27.
The BJP said that Kalam’s sudden and unexpected death in Shillong was a great shock to the nation, particularly to the people of Meghalaya.
“We (State BJP) on behalf of the people of Meghalaya share deepest sorrow and grieve the loss to the great son of the Nation,” Chakraborty said. He said that Dr. Kalam, really dedicates his valuable services till the last moments of his breath for the young generation of North East.
Chakraborty said Kalam’s great work will remain in the memories of the people of Shillong and hoped his of love and blessings will continue to remain forever and ever for the people of the state. He said, “We pray his soul may rest in peace.”
The party has also sent its condolence to the bereaved family members of Kalam.- By Our Reporter
