SHILLONG, JUN 6: The former BJP North Garo Hills District president Bachu Chambugong Marak, who resigned recently, today said the people will not accept the party which seeks to hamper their culture and food habits.
“The Christian community as a whole cannot accept the BJP mandate, which hamper our culture, tradition and food habits,” Marak said in a statement issued here.
Stating that his decision to resign from the BJP is in the interest of the Garo community, he alleged that Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act indicates both direct and indirect banning on the sale of beef and slaughter of cows.
He said that the Hindutva ideology, which the BJP is trying to impose directly and indirectly in a Christian state will not be accepted.
“We are Christian by birth and our Holy Bible suggests us to consume beef. In the Holy Bible GENESIS Chapter 18:7:8 that allow us to consume beef. So why the BJP are so upset with our food habits?,” he said.
Marak also asked that if the Congress can (respect people’s food habits), why not the BJP?
He also informed that they had raised the burning issue related to beef row before the state leaders, but they failed to clarify, which only signifies they are partially in favour of Hinduism.
“My entire District Committee, District Mahila Morcha Committee, District Yuva Morcha Committee, and the Mandal Committee were dissolved and we have denotify the BJP District office which was inaugurated by state president Shibun Lyngdoh,” he said.
Meanwhile, Marak also appealed to the people of Garo Hills to be caution while choosing the BJP candidates in the upcoming 2018 state elections
