SHILLONG, JAN 29: BJP leader and cabinet minister AL Hek has said that the party is not interested to have a pre-poll alliance with any political party for contesting the elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) which will be held on April 9.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Hek said that the BJP is fully geared up and is confident to win the election.
“However, it is too early to tell you as to whether we will contest from all 29 seats or from a few seats or only 50 percent of the seats,” he said.
The minister said four-five candidates have approached him and other leaders of the party for tickets but “we are yet to receive any official intimation (from them).”
Stating that GHADC polls have a huge potential for BJP, Hek however said, “But this potentiality has to be translated into votes. So now we have to do our survey…until and unless we have done our survey…will not be able to give you the number of seats.”
He said that the party would sit very soon to declare the list of candidates.
Asked, the BJP leader said that he wants the party to fight the election alone.
“This is my personal opinion that we don’t want to have any pre-poll alliance with any political party. BJP will contest alone,” he said.
On the other hand, Hek informed that zero tolerance on corruption will be one of the main agendas of the BJP during the upcoming elections.
It may be mentioned that the BJP state president Ernest Mawrie has been demanding a CBI probe into the alleged misappropriation of funds by the GHADC and JHADC.
When asked, Hek however said that they cannot blame others if they don’t have any evidence that they are corrupted.
He further informed that the other issues to be raised by the party would also include development and employment. According to him, the BJP’s aim is to work for the all round development of the state.
