SHILLONG, FEB 24: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs and BJP leader from the North East, Kiren Rijiju today said the BJP has dominated the politics of the North East and claimed that it is going to form government in the three states including Meghalaya.
“These three elections is a defining election because we are going in a big way and will form the government,” Rijiju, who arrived in the state’s capital here after campaigning in Nagaland, told journalists on Saturday.
While elections in Tripura were already held in February 18, Nagaland and Meghalaya will both go for fresh polls on February 27. Counting in all the three states is fixed on March 3.
Expressing confidence that the BJP is going to form the government in Tripura, he said that is the ground report and theassessment is that BJP will form the government with absolute majority.
In Nagaland, Rijiju while informing that the BJP is fighting the election in alliance with the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party said, “We are in absolutely comfortable position in Nagaland and we are going to form the government.”
Claiming that he knows the political history of Meghalaya very well as he was the incharge for more than 10 years, he said, “This time the difference is perceptible. We have fielded 47 candidates and hope to win as many seats as possible.”
According to him, earlier the BJP’s presence was limited in the elections here and used to fight in few numbers of seats and sometime win few numbers of seats but this coming election will be a defining election.
Stating that the BJP has successfully formed the government in three states of the NE -Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur, he said, “This is because the BJP has dominated the politics of North East.”
Asserting that this is primarily because the long problems and isolation being faced by the NE people has found way in the form of BJP, the BJP leader said, “BJP is the panacea to all the ailments which the people of North East are facing.”
With the rest of the country progressive at a fast pace, the union minister said that BJP is bringing the North East along and ensuring that the region do not get lacking behind in any sector.
He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi from day one had instructed that every ministry lead by every minister must visit North East keeping in mind that without the development of North East, development of India is incomplete.
“With that slogan Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas, we are going ahead. When we talked about Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas, it is inclusive growth taking along everybody,” he added.
Slamming the Congress party for allegedly spreading false propaganda against the BJP, Rijiju said, “What is great pain to me is that the Congress party is trying to hide their failures under the guard of misleading which is visible in Nagaland and also in Meghalaya.”
In Meghalaya in particular, the senior BJP leader said the Congress leaders are trying to spread a news painting BJP as a communal and anti-Christian party while terming this as “most unfortunate”.
He further stated that Meghalaya will have its own election and all MLAs are from Meghalaya including chief minister and ministers and the question of imposition does not arise.
“I don’t understand when they try to paint BJP as something to do with Hindu force but religion and politics is completely two different things and the natives of Meghalaya are going to take care of Meghalaya and I am here to assist,” he said.
Rijiju also assured that the Prime Minister is giving full assistance to Meghalaya and it is the people of Meghalaya who are going to take care of the home state.
“So imposition is totally deniable, this is unacceptable, this is something which the Congress is spreading the news which nobody will believe,” he added.
Stating that Meghalaya today needs special assistance and care, the union minister said, “The focus attention for development of Meghalaya can be provided only by the BJP. BJP is only force which can take care of all the concerns of Meghalaya and North East people.”
Meanwhile, Rijiju also assured that the party is going to fulfil all the promises and commitments made in its manifesto released earlier and that it is going to abide by that. “Therefore, we are hopeful for a positive result on March 3,” he stated.
