SHILLONG, AUG 26: The Meghalaya unit of the BJP has decided to contest the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections slated to be held after the peace process is completed with the militant outfits ANVC and ANVC(B) even as it stated that the party will meet the union minister of state for home Kiren Rijiju to discuss the issue.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Meghalaya unit of BJP general secretary Dipayan Chakraborty said that the party’s core group meeting was held in Shillong on Tuesday and discussed the political situation in Garo hills including the law and order situation.

The meeting was presided by BJP state president Khlur Singh Lyngdoh and was attended by state vice president David Ch Marak and state general secretary Dipayan Chakraborty.

The statement said, “The meeting expressed deep concerned over the law and order situation in Garo Hills. The meeting also decided that the state BJP will again inform the union government over the law and order situation.”

Chakraborty also informed that the meeting expressed happiness over Rijiju’s assurance to the Meghalaya home minister Roshan Warjri for providing all assistance to bring back peace in Garo hills. He however added that because of lack of will power of the state government the scenario in Garo hills reached such a boiling point.

The BJP core group meeting also decided to take part in the GHADC election and the party decided to strengthen all the MDC constituencies in Garo hills and also discuss steps necessary to be taken to strengthen the organization was discussed.- By Our Reporter
