SHILLONG, JUL 21: Over nine BJP leaders from Meghalaya have applied to contest the Shillong Parliamentary byelection, state party leader AL Hek said on Tuesday.
Hek, who is also the Pynthorumkhrah MLA, said the Meghalaya BJP had called for applications from interested candidates and has since received more than nine.
The names have been sent to the party’s central leadership by the state president for further consideration.
Asked about when the BJP would announce its candidate, Hek said the national leadership is currently occupied with organisational work, including appointments to key posts.
“They have a lot of work at the Centre. Once that is taken care of, they will take a call on the Shillong seat at the right time,” he said.
