SHILLONG, SEPT 20: The BJP state youth wing today staged an anti-corruption protest rally here in the city highlighting the various scams and irregularities under the present Congress-led state government regime.
The 2009 education job scam unearthed by the central bureau of investigation (CBI), irregularities in electricity bill, deplorable road conditions and others were raised during the protest held at the parking lot near the Additional Secretariat.
Speaking to reporters, BJP state president Shibun Lyngdoh said that state leadership extends full support to its youth wing in the protest against corruptions by the present state government.
“This government suffers from various corruption charges be it medicine scam, education scam and others. There is completely no transparency in the state,” he said.
Lyngdoh further lambasted the Congress government for making false promises which he alleged was just to fool the people of the state ahead of the upcoming 2018 elections.
“The government has created new community and rural blocks without any availability of funds,” he alleged.
On the other hand, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) president Egenstar Kurkalang has accused the state government for the delay in the punishment of those involved in the education job scam.
“The delay is because the state government is involved in blocking the authorities concerned to initiate the process of law against the culprits. The cabinet minister Ampareen Lyngdoh cannot simply wash her hands on this because the scam took place during her tenure as the education minister,” he said.
He also lambasted the chief minister Mukul Sangma for shielding tainted law makers and said, “This shows that he (Mukul) wants to work only with a team which understands him.”
Kurkalang further alleged the state government for its failure to fill up over 900 teacher vacancy posts in the different schools, delay in releasing the scholarship of the students from 2014 and admission problems faced by the students.
The failures of the government cited by him includes setting up of engineering college and construction of the much-awaited new building of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.
“Therefore, we demand the chief minister and his ministers to step down if they cannot deliver and allow others who can live up to the expectation of the people especially the youths of the state,” he said.
Anti-government slogans written on the placards were also on displayed at the protest venue. Some of them read as – “United against corruption for development, peace and security, say no to corruption”, “empty promises false foundation stones bankrupt state coffers”, the “duty of the youth is to challenge corruption”.
