BJP Meghalaya to take up with Centre on assault of NE people in Bihar

SHILLONG, MAY 25: The BJP Meghalaya has condemned the unpleasant incident at a railway station in Bihar after miscreants forcefully boarded a special train and assaulted passengers from the North eastern states including Meghalaya.

“We strongly condemned the incident and will be taking up the matter with the concerned railway authorities, the Government of Bihar and the state president of Bihar BJP,” BJP state president Ernest Mawrie said in a statement issued here on Monday.

Mawrie said it has come to the notice of the party that hundreds of miscreants has forcefully boarded a Shramik Express train carrying passengers from the North eastern states including Meghalaya, at the Danapur station in Bihar.

He said these miscreants, who wanted to travel back to their homes for celebrating their festival today, not only misbehaved, but also physically assaulted the passengers.

Mawrie also expressed shock that such an incident could take place despite the lockdown measures enforced by the local administration of Bihar.

He urged the people to cooperate with each other during the Covid 19 threat as the government is plying these trains for the benefit of stranded workers, etc. and not for facilitating people to celebrate their religious festivals.

On Sunday, upon learning of the unfortunate incident involving the people of Meghalaya in a special train bound for Guwahati from Gurugram, when a groups of people forcibly boarded the train at Danapur station in Bihar, the state government through the Chief Secretary and DGP took up the matter in right earnest with their counterparts in Bihar as well as in New Delhi.

Both the top officials of the State sought enhanced security measures for travelers passing through Bihar and also an assurance that such incidents will not occur again. On their request, the special train could exit Bihar with Railway Protection Force (RPF) escorting it to Guwahati railway station.

Meanwhile, the Khasi Students Union (KSU) had also demanded both the Centre and state government to ensure safe return of all stranded people from the state and NE region.
