SHILLONG, FEB 17: Congress veteran leader and former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi today accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of making “false promises” by claiming that it would solve the boundary dispute between Assam and Meghalaya
It may be pointed out that, the vision document of the BJP which was released recently envisages proper demarcated and undisputed borders with Assam.
“Capitalise on the unique alignment of a BJP government at the centre, BJP governments in all the neighbouring states and a BJP government in Meghalaya to resolve the long pending boundary issues of Meghalaya,” the BJP’s vision document states.
Addressing journalists here on Saturday, Gogoi however alleged that the BJP is making false promises adding that the saffron had promised the “same thing” even to Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh, which also have boundary disputes with Assam.
The veteran leader further claimed that the Congress is serious in resolving the boundary issues.
“We (Congress) also want to resolve it. It is a sensitive issue and has to be solved amicably,” Gogoi said.
The former Chief Minister also said that he was happy that unlike the border dispute with Nagaland, the row with Meghalaya has not reached the court.
Gogoi also admitted that it takes time to solve such a long pending border dispute.
