TURA, JUNE 14: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Meghalaya, BJP’s victory in Assam and formation of North East Development Alliance (NEDA) are all indication that BJP is upbeat and is slowly and steadily making its inroad in Meghalaya.
The BJP youth wing on Tuesday expanded its base in West and East Garo hills by electing its president for strengthening the saffron base in Garo Hills.
The official visit of Modi to Shillong for inauguration of a slew of development programme coincided with Modi government’s two year in office. The party functionaries in Meghalaya are upbeat and are expanding its base across the state.
The youth wing of the state led by its state president Egenstar Kurkulang and other party functionaries held meeting at Tura in West Garo Hills and Williamnagar in East Garo Hills to elect BJYM city president today.
Wilver Graham M. Danggo and Bening Ch. Marak were elected as BJYM city president for Tura and Williamnagar.
The youth leaders of the saffron party seemed charged up as they spoke in length about Modi government’s achievement and asked its brigade to promote and popularise BJP agenda for peace, tranquility, growth and development of the state.
“We are expanding the yuva morcha in Garo hills and strengthening the saffron party. We are committed to serve the people and bring change for Garo hills and the state of Meghalaya”, said Egenstar Kurkulang, State BJYM president.
He said that the visit of Modi recently in Shillong has motivated the youths of the state and the citizen in particular. “He is a dynamic leader and it inculcates in the minds of the youth that he is an able leader, who is working for the interest of the nation and its development”, Kurkulang added.
The newly elected city president of the yuva morcha Wilver Graham said, “We will be expanding our base in Garo hills and give an opportunity for the youths to partner with BJYM to propagate the vision of Modi ji”.
Wilver Graham also informed that the BJYM units will be formed in different parts of Garo hills in the days to come.
The victory of BJP in Assam holds immense significance in northeast, including its immediate neighbour Meghalaya, which goes to poll in 2018. In Meghalaya, the common slogan has been that Modi has not achieved much but has created rift, chaos and divide amongst the minorities.
However, the BJYM and the saffron brigade are geared up to counter Congress claim and is hoping to make a formidable impact in the 2018 assembly election.-From Our Correspondent
