SHILLONG, JULY 5: AICC general secretary Dr CP Joshi on Tuesday predicted that there will not be a replay of Arunachal Pradesh like situation in Meghalaya even as he alleged that the BJP is desperate to make inroad in north eastern region.

“They (BJP) cannot repeat Arunachal Pradesh like situation in Meghalaya,” Joshi told reporters even as he admitting there is a move by the BJP to destabilize the government in the state.

Stating that the BJP is desperate to create a space in the NE, he said, “The desperation led them to enter into an alliance with other political parties to form the government in Assam.”

When asked whether the Congress will also go for pre-poll alliance, He said that the party will be able to reply only in the 2018 when state assembly elections will take place.

Earlier while addressing party functionaries at Congress Bhavan, he urged the state party leadership to be cautious and vigilant since the NE region will be playing a major role in the next 2-3 years.

Alleging that the BJP led centre government is not interested in empowering people of different faiths, Joshi said, “The NDA government has reduced the funds for development of panchayati raj to only Rs 94 crore from Rs 7000 crore, which was allotted by then Congress led UPA government.”

He also accused the present centre government of winding up the Planning Commission because it was allocating more funds to the NE states. He, therefore, felt that now the onus lies with the people of the north east because the country cannot be govern by a single culture.- By Our Reporter
