SHILLONG, SEPT 2: The Council of Traditional Dorbars (CoTD) constituted by the KHADC on Friday decided to pressurize the Governor and state government to speed up approving the KHAD (Constitution of Traditional Dorbars) Bill, 2016. The decision was taken at a meeting of CoTD chaired by the KHADC chief executive member PN Syiem as its chairman on Friday, which was attended by MDCs and representatives of the various traditional institutions.
“We would soon lead a delegation of the CoTD to meet the Governor and DCA minister to push for speedy assent of the Bill,” Syiem told reporters after the meeting.
The Bill was passed by the ruling Congress led PDF in the KHADC with an aim to retain, protect, conserve and preserve the socio-cultural ethos of Khasi society and the traditional system of self-governance.
The meeting has also resolved to convene the general meeting of the CoTD in the first week of November, to make aware the objectives of the council.
Syiem said the meeting will be attended by representatives of various dorbar shnong, dorbar raid and dorbar hima under the Khasi hills region.-By Our Reporter
